My Favorite Halloween Monster/Character

I love love love halloween! It's probably my favorite time of year just because there are so many exciting things going on and me and my friends always end up doing something crazy like going to a cemetery just to freak ourselves out. Well if i could choose my favorite monster, (which isnt really considered a monster but oh well), i would choose mike myers. I love all the mike myers movies and i even bought the mask to scare kids on halloween when we give out candy. Heres a picture of Mike Myers for those who dont know him!

One of the poems i chose...THE MOON

WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL I ALWAYS DREAMT OF GOING UP TO THE MOON AND BEING THE ONLY PERSON THERE, STARING DOWN AT THE WORLD. NOW I STILL DREAM OF IT AND I WONDER WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE BEING THE ONLY SOUL ON THE MOON LOOKING DOWN AT THE EARTH. IMAGINING IT, IT WOULD BE SO QUIET AND SO PEACEFUL AND THE EARTH WOULD LOOK SO DIFFERENT. THINGS ALWAYS APPEAR TO BE SO DIFFERENT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THEM FROM AFAR BUT IN REALITY OUR EARTH IS SO CHAOTIC. I WISH OUR EARTH COULD BE MORE PEACEFUL AND SERENE LIKE IT APPEARS FROM THE MOON.
-ALISSAR

I was inspired to write this poem because i always thought of the moon as such a fascinating place and i just wanted to write about something that moved me. Sometimes we overlook the beauty of the moon because its always there and we became immune to it because we always see it, but to me, i think its an extraordinary place and that's why i chose to write about it. I actually didnt face any challenges in writing this poem just because i wasnt taking it too seriously and i was writing from the heart so it wasnt difficult for me to write. I believe when someone is pressured or writing to please others, they will face difficulties.

Pablo Neruda

POETRY BY : Pablo Neruda

And it was at that age...
Poetry arrived in search of me.
I don't know, I don't know where it came from,
from winter or a river.
I don't know how or when,
no, they were not voices,
they were not words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.

I did not know what to say,
my mouth had no way with names
my eyes were blind,
and something started in my soul,
fever or forgotten wings,
and I made my own way,
deciphering that fire
and I wrote the first faint line,
faint, without substance,
pure nonsense,
pure wisdom
of someone who knows nothing,
and suddenly I saw the heavens unfastened and open,
planets,
palpitating planations,
shadow perforated,
riddled with arrows, fire and flowers,
the winding night, the universe.

And I, infinitesmal being,
drunk with the great starry void,
likeness, image of mystery,
I felt myself a pure part of the abyss,
I wheeled with the stars,
my heart broke free on the open sky.

One of the four poems i chose is called, "Love's philosophy" By Percy Bysshe Shelley

The fountains mingle with the river,And the rivers with the ocean; The winds of heaven mix forever,With a sweet emotion;Nothing in the world is single; All things by a law divineIn one another's being mingle;--Why not I with thine?
See! the mountains kiss high heaven,And the waves clasp one another; No sister flower would be forgiven,If it disdained it's brother; And the sunlight clasps the earth,And the moonbeams kiss the sea;--What are all these kissings worth,If thou kiss not me?

I really enjoyed reading this poem because it has it really nice flow and a strong meaning coorelated with it. I liked the fact that shelly incorporated nature as a focal point instead of strictly describing love alone. Instead he compared love to the way nature is structured where everything is linked or connected to something else. Then, he concludes with, "What is all these kissings worth, if thou kiss not me?"
